I was born in Canada. My aunt gave me a Kodak Instamatic camera when I was ten and that was it for me. The magic of seeing a print come back from the developer that I imagined in my mind and saw with my eye was all I needed. I spent some time in the military, I earned an MBA at Durham University in the UK, I spent some time in consulting. I was always making pictures but it took me a while to realize it was what I was born for.
I mostly make fine art photography prints of museum quality and small editions for discerning art buyers. These are sold through my website or in my gallery in Huatulco, Mexico. My work here is deeply personal to me, as is the standard of quality and service. All materials are of the highest standard, and I prefer to work closely with clients to find the best image, size and place for their home or office. If you like my work but are looking for something not seen here or on Instagram, please get in touch. Many of my clients have become friends, and I like that.
I am also known for my distinctive personal and corporate portraits, and enjoy telling stories for newspaper, magazine, and corporate clients. Please write if you would like to collaborate.
I also lead photo walks, tours and workshops in Huatulco, Mexico, because I love to share my passion of photography with others who want to learn and improve. It's a great way to experience Huatulco, and you can read more about that on the dedicated page here. In my gallery I like to show other artists as well with guest exhibitions or talks, and I offer some photo services. If you are in Huatulco, please drop in to say hi. There's always new work on display, and I ship worldwide. If you are an artist interested in showing, please get in touch. There are also Facebook pages for the gallery (Kevin Spreitz Gallery in Huatulco), and for Huatulco Photo Walks.
My work has been featured in BWGallerist, Pictory, Nik Radio, and The Globe and Mail, among others. I have freelance contracts with some international newspapers. Collectors and art enthusiasts in North America, Europe, India, and the Middle East have bought my limited prints. I moved to Huatulco, Mexico a few years ago because I wanted to live in Mexico by the ocean. It was the second-best decision I made. The first was asking Marisol to marry me. We now divide our time between Huatulco and Ontario.
Selected exhibitions and galleries include: Meaford Hall Arts and Cultural Center, Meaford; Black Dog Gallery, Thornbury; Mio Cardio Picaduria, Guadalajara; Galeria Vértice, Guadalajara; Casa Rômbo, Guadalajara; Arte y Feriá, Ajijic; Galeria Dos Lunás, Ajijic; The Ajijic Arthouse, Ajijic; Huatulco Being, Huatulco.
The only things that drive me in my photographic art are making a great image with compelling composition and story, with crazy attention to detail and high standards in print production, and knowing that my imagery can move someone.
